We are sad to announce the passing of Daphne C. Raasch, age 88, of Philadelphia, on November 13, 2022. Devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Daphne passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Daphne was born in Thrapston, England. She moved to the United States in her twenties and met her husband, David, in New York. Together, they have two children, John, and Clare, and three grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan, and Lillian.
Daphne was an avid stitcher, flower arranger, and traveler. She had regular entries in the Philadelphia Flower Show and was instrumental in a major needlework project for St. Martin’s Church, writing a book about the experience. She was often found playing her piano and harp or cheering on British football teams. She also spent time at the Wissahickon Skating Club, making costumes, supporting her children, and skating herself. In recent years she enjoyed her Scottish and English dancing groups. Baking together in the kitchen was one of her favorite things to do with her children and grandchildren.
Along with her sewing business and office work, she was an active member of the Chestnut Hill community for 55 years. Daphne volunteered at the hospital, local schools, and church. Recently, she and David were spending more time living in the Pacific Northwest, to be closer to family.
Due to her love of Cape Cod, the family invites you to donate in her honor to the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary of Mass Audubon at www.massaudubon.org in lieu of flowers. Please direct your donation to benefit the Wellfleet Bay.
A private celebration of life will be held with family members.
