The 9th (Chestnut Hill), 21st (Roxborough and Manayunk), and 22nd (Mt. Airy) Democratic Wards hosted a judicial candidate forum in Mt. Airy on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The event featured Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Kevin Dougherty, Commonwealth Court Judge candidate Stella Tsai, State Rep. Tarik Khan (D), and ward leaders, including Jeff Duncan from Chestnut Hill and Councilmember Cindy Bass (D) from Mt. Airy.

In the upcoming Nov. 4 election, Democratic State Supreme Court Justices Dougherty, Christine Donohue, and David Wecht are up for retention, meaning a yes or no vote on whether they will continue for another 10-year term.

Pennsylvania Republicans are currently campaigning for residents to vote “no” in retaining these justices.

“If Philadelphia does not come out [to vote], we lose,” Dougherty said to the attendees. “Democracy is at risk, guys, the future for our children, voting rights, social justice, civil rights, they’re coming for it.”
