Development review process is too painful

Over my many years in real estate (53 to be exact), I’ve had a number of opportunities to either witness or actually participate in the current review process. In my opinion, the existing process acts as a deterrent for potential businesses wishing to come to the commercial district. It is financially burdensome and overly repetitive.

Over my many years in real estate (53 to be exact), I’ve had a number of opportunities to either witness or actually participate in the current review process. In my opinion, the existing process acts as a deterrent for potential businesses wishing to come to the commercial district. It is financially burdensome and overly repetitive.

The pilot program incorporates all the advantages of the current system and none of the detriments. And, it’s a one-year pilot. It was developed as a result of a several-year process… thoughtful and rigorous that included many, many opportunities for feedback. If it doesn’t feel effective after the one-year period, things can be adjusted.

Mainstream USA commercial areas are struggling all over the country. We need to make our processes more welcoming if we want our commercial districts to survive and thrive.

The current system needs to change and this suggested change is for the better.
