It’s easy to feel discouraged about government today but Springfield Township actually stands out for good Democratic leadership. When we moved to the township in 1999, the Board of Commissioners was ruled by a solid majority of very conservative Republicans, one of whom offered to use his personal bulldozer to knock down the colonial Blackhorse Inn!
Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and the Inn survives on a newly calmed Bethlehem Pike (thanks to the fully Democratic Board of Commissioners), which has a lot of potential to succeed as a town center.

Other good works are on the horizon, including a new recreation center, a Superfund site to be reclaimed as a multi-use park, and a new multi-use walking and biking trail through Erdenheim Farm.
I have the privilege of running as the endorsed candidate (by the party and outgoing Commissioner Peter Wilson) for the position of Ward 4 Commissioner in the upcoming municipal election. I hope to advocate for more active transportation, increased government transparency and open space preservation. So if you live in Springfield make sure to come out and vote, and vote yes to retain all of the Democratic judges regardless of where you live in Pennsylvania.
