How and where to ring in the New Year

Posted

If you’re looking to stay in the neighborhood this New Year’s Eve, you can head over to Mt. Airy’s Bar Lizette, where DJ Slowpoqué and DJ Vinyl Chic-y will be spinning records from 9 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. Expect lots of Euro-pop, Latin Dance music and American soul and funk from the 1960s to 1980s. There’s no entry fee, but be sure to order from the bar and tip your bartender. For more information visit Bar Lizette’s Instagram page, @bar.lizette.

You could also head to Jacob’s Northwest, also in Mt. Airy, for a New Orleans-themed New Year’s Party called Philly Gumbo. For a $75 entry fee, you can ring in the new year with a New Orleans flavor to Philly Gumbo’s unique “gumbo mix” of New Orleans R&B, blues, funk, reggae and soul. The party at Jacob’s will last from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For more information visit jacbosnorthwestphl.com.

But let’s face it: Chestnut Hill may provide a bucolic escape from the concrete jungle of downtown, but Center City and its surrounding neighborhoods are where most of the action is on New Year’s Eve. So if you’re looking to hop on the train and head down for a piece of that action, you have more options. The Local rounded a couple of them up for you so you can make sure you can send off 2023 in style.
