Jenkintown Pops concerts set for August

Posted

The Jenkintown Community Band (JCB) has unveiled plans for its three Summer Pops concerts, slated to take place the second week of August. The highlight of the performances will be a series of timeless classics from popular Broadway musicals.

The first concert is set for 7:00 PM on Monday, August 7th, at St Luke Church, Glenside, PA. This will be followed by the second show at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, August 8th at Willow Grove Park Mall, Willow Grove, PA. The series concludes at 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 10th, at Mount St Joseph Academy, Flourtown, PA.

Concertgoers can expect a nostalgic musical journey, with songs from Broadway favorites like Frozen, Annie, Les Miserables, West Side Story, Fiddler On The Roof, and Oliver. Each concert is expected to last approximately 90 minutes, inclusive of an intermission.

Founded in 2008, the non-profit ensemble, led by musical director Alex Schmauk, boasts an average of 75 members annually, ranging from junior and senior high school students to retired seniors. All members voluntarily perform.

In line with a cherished tradition, the JCB concerts are open to the public without charge, though they do accept donations. The performances are particularly inviting for families and seniors, as well as groups from retirement communities and churches. This year's Summer Pops venues have been selected with accessibility in mind, ensuring they are handicap-friendly.
