Letter: Bass’ inaction and bad leadership

After attending the debate between Cindy Bass and Seth Anderson-Oberman, I grabbed a copy of the Chestnut Hill Local and saw an open letter to Councilperson Bass from the West Central Germantown Neighbors regarding holdups on many recommended projects.  They asked her to keep her December 2021 promise to introduce a vetted, approved list of legislation to City Council.  Alas, it is still not done.

First of all, it's a disturbing trend.  Just look at Germantown High School, a place that has sat vacant and unused for years. There are many vacant buildings like this in her district.  This is not a coincidence. She has failed to get needed construction projects going.

Furthermore, in the debate, it turns out that the official that Bass appointed to the Germantown Special Services District was accused of stealing over $125,000 from it.  The worst part was that she said that she doesn't meet with these groups!  She put those leaders there, and she's responsible for their performance. Period!  Why would you appoint people to take care of your neighbors and not verify that it wasn't getting done?  That's poor management and bad leadership.

In addition to that, she has an ex-staffer who is going to jail for collecting COVID unemployment checks while on the city payroll.  And then, this person was not fired.  He was transferred.  Why cover for him?  Why allow this person to defraud the government in the first place?

Finally, there is simply a culture of inaction and failure from the leadership of the 8th City Council District, and it's time for a change.  Let's move on.  Vote for Seth Anderson-Oberman on May 16 and let's continue to pressure City Hall to get things moving!  We need help to build a better Philadelphia and Seth is up for the task.  Cindy Bass has proven over and over again that she is not.
