Mount St. Joseph crew scores national championship

For the first time in 20 years, Mount St. Joseph Academy has won in the USRowing Youth National Championships, held in Sarasota, Florida.

On Sunday, the Youth Second Varsity 8+ (Kayleigh Costello '26, Ella Kurek '26, Addison Marques '27, Aubrey Sheehan '27, Megan Bell '28, Addison Ross '26, Christian Robinson '28, Ava Kristel '28, and Zoe Nguyen '27) came in first place in Final A, making theirs the first Mount national champion boat since the Lightweight 8 in 2006. The Mount’s second 2V8 boat finished second in Final D, and the Under 16 8+ came in 4th in Final A.

For the first time in 20 years, Mount St. Joseph Academy has won in the USRowing Youth National Championships, held in Sarasota, Florida.

On Sunday, the Youth Second Varsity 8+ (Kayleigh Costello '26, Ella Kurek '26, Addison Marques '27, Aubrey Sheehan '27, Megan Bell '28, Addison Ross '26, Christian Robinson '28, Ava Kristel '28, and Zoe Nguyen '27) came in first place in Final A, making theirs the first Mount national champion boat since the Lightweight 8 in 2006. The Mount’s second 2V8 boat finished second in Final D, and the Under 16 8+ came in 4th in Final A.

The championships wrapped up an incredible spring season for Mount crew, with 30 first-place finishes across their boats, including two gold finishes at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. For the 22nd time in 23 years, the team received the Brigantine Trophy for Girls Sweep Points amassed through successes at the Manny Flick regattas this year.

The Mount crew staff consists of head coach Alanna McCloy ’10, freshmen/novice head coach Kiera McCloy ’12, and assistant coaches Kara Lederer Butler ’10, Luisa Magda, Stu Chase, Kelly O’Connor and Caitlin Lawson.
