Mt. Airy armed robbery triggers school lockdown

Posted

C.W. Henry School in Mt. Airy was put into lockdown on Thursday after a woman walking near the corner of Westview and Sherman Streets, located about a block from the school, was robbed at gunpoint by three males, aged between 12 and 14, shortly before 2 p.m.

No injuries were reported. One of the boys stole the woman’s phone in the holdup, which occurred around the corner from the school shortly before students were about to be let out for the day. All three fled on foot and were last seen at Carpenter Lane and Greene Street.

The woman, who did not sustain any injuries, was interviewed by police detectives. The investigation is ongoing.

“The safety and well-being of our students is the main priority of each and every staff member here, and we will always strive to ensure that school remains a secure and welcoming environment,” C.W. Henry Principal Kristy Len said in a statement sent out to parents. “Incidents like this are frightening to students and we encourage you to check in with your child at home today and reassure them that they are safe.”
