NW Philly’s questions answered

Four battling for open seat in U.S. Congress

Posted

Two weeks before the May 19 primary election, the Local invited the candidates running for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District to answer questions submitted by Northwest Philadelphia organizations, a seat opening with the impending retirement of U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans.

The participating organizations are the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, Friends of the Wissahickon, Face to Face Germantown, the Mt. Airy Business Improvement District, and West Mt. Airy Neighbors.

Each group submitted one question for a total of five. The Local gave each candidate one minute to think about each answer and two minutes to respond on camera. Candidates were given an additional two minutes at the end of the questions to discuss their platforms.

The candidates had only one chance to respond to the questions, with no re-shoots, and did not receive the questions prior to the shoot.

Democratic candidates Shaun Griffith, state Rep. Chris Rabb, Dr. Ala Stanford and state Sen. Sharif Street all participated. There are no Republicans running.

In the transcribed versions of the interviews, the Local lightly edited for clarity and removed filler or repeated words.
