Activist and entrepreneur Shiza Shahid, whose passion for food, culture, and connection led to the creation of the Our Place cookware line, will discuss her new book during an author chat Friday, Feb. 21, at Greene Street Friends in Germantown.

Shahid will discuss the cookbook, "Dinner at Our Place," with host and food writer, Kae Lani Palmisano. The new release invites "readers to rediscover the joy of gathering, celebrate cultural traditions, and find connection through the simple act of sharing a meal," says Shahid, co-founder and co-chief executive officer of Our Place, a brand that includes the popular Always Pan.

Shahid has worked closely with activist and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai in developing initiatives to promote girls' education. Shahid was an organizing force instrumental in the creation of the Malala Fund, a nonprofit organization that advocates "for a world where every girl can learn and lead."

Our Place is a mission-driven brand that offers kitchenware for the modern, global kitchen. Rooted in the belief that home cooking has the power to bring people together, Our Place founders say the brand celebrates the traditions, ingredients, and connections that make every meal meaningful.

The new cookbook includes more than 100 recipes such as Saffron Tachin, Whole Salt-Roasted Fish, Shiso Onigiri, Chili Chocolate Sheet Cake and Spritz'groni. The book also offers a guide to hosting 12 specially curated dinner parties offering advice on playlists, mood lighting guides, plating philosophies, scripts for talking to the fishmonger and more.

The event is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $9.99 for general admission; $37.99 includes a signed copy of the book. For information visit Unclebobbies.com/events. Greene Street Friends is at 45 West Schoolhouse Lane in Germantown.
