Patrick Gerard Lally (Lt. Col. Ret.). Most recently of Glenside, PA, died peacefully on October 24, 2023, at the age of 90. Born and raised in Chicago, longtime resident of Honolulu and Arlington, VA, he is survived by sons, Patrick J. (Rosemary) and Christopher S. (Marlene); sister Mary T. White; grandchildren Michelle, Christopher, Patrick, and Grace; and great-grandchild Violet Maeve. He is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Sabina (née Marren), his former wife Melinda (née Urciuoli), and daughter Judilyn. 1952 graduate of Chicago’s Quigley Memorial Preparatory Seminary; 1955 B.A. Philosophy from Saint Mary's of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein, Il; 1956 B.A. Foreign Service, Georgetown University; 1969 M.A Pre-Revolutionary History, University of Illinois. A graduate of Fort Sill Officer Candidate School, he was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, serving from 1957 to 1981, a distinguished field artillery veteran of the Vietnam War, Army 32nd Battalion 5th Special Forces (Airborne) “Green Beret” Tay Ninh Province, and military attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Soldier and educator, he taught at Georgetown Preparatory School from 1960 to 1962 and chaired the History Department at Honolulu’s St. Francis High School from 1981 to 1996. The family will receive guests at Jacob F. Ruth Funeral Home, 8413 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118 on Saturday, November 4th from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Avenue at 11:00 am. Interment private Arlington National Cemetery.
