It came down to the last game of the 2025 season, but in the end the Penn Charter lads were able to take care of business. At home on Maguire Field last Saturday, the Quakers defeated historic rival Germantown Academy, 2-1, to clinch the Inter-Ac League soccer championship.

Last weekend’s win gave PC a final record of 8-1-1 in the league (15-5-2 overall), which translates into 25 points in the standings. On the same day, three-time defending champion Haverford School defeated Episcopal Academy, 1-0, for a second-place total of 22 points (7-2-1).

Going into the final week of October, Penn Charter was undefeated in the league with a record of 7-0-1. The Quakers had tied Haverford in their first meeting this fall, then won the rematch on Oct. 24, 3-2.

However, on Oct. 28, PC suffered a 2-1 loss on the road to fifth-place Malvern Prep, which shows the overall competitiveness of the Inter-Ac. Given Saturday’s Haverford victory over EA, Penn Charter would’ve had to share the 2025 title with the Fords if it had lost to Germantown Academy.

In league play, the GA Patriots swept their home/away series against Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, split with Malvern, and had a loss and a tie against Episcopal. The resulting 3-6-1 record placed them fourth behind Episcopal (6-3-1) ahead of Malvern (3-7) and Springside Chestnut Hill (1-9). In their first encounter, SCH defeated Malvern, but Malvern recorded a 3-0 win over the Blue Devils last Saturday.

At PC on Saturday, the Quakers’ march to the championship was paused as visiting GA put the first point on the scoreboard. A goal by senior Connor Harrington gave the Patriots a 1-0 halftime advantage.

Just over six minutes into the second half the Quakers evened it up, with senior Jak Kreamer bringing the ball through the left side of the box and angling a shot over to the right. GA’s goalie, senior Rowen Harbert, dove and extended an arm to get a hand on the ball, but it still rolled inside of the far post for the score.

The 1-1 tie remained on the board for quite awhile; then Charter put in the game-winner with 9:46 remaining. With a defender sticking with him, Quakers senior Willem Van Beelen took the ball toward the left post, freed himself for a shot, and fired into the far side of the net.

In the remaining minutes, the Quakers controlled the ball much of the time, and soon they were celebrating their Inter-Ac championship.
