Save Chestnut Hill West

Posted

One thousand neighbors tried to join a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to try to save the CH West train, which is in danger of being cut. Like the trolley, if the train is temporarily stopped, it will never return. We cannot afford to lose this treasure.

Many people depend upon the trains, aside from those commuting to work. Hundreds of students need the train to get to school. Some elderly people depend upon it. Many disabled people use the train to get to work or for doctor appointments, since most of the stations are handicapped-accessible.

For some of us, the train is a convenience; for others, a necessity.

What about the developers building new construction in the area because of proximity to public transit?

During this time of climate change, it is imperative that we NOT cut public transportation!!!

We need to consider the importance of reducing pollution, aggravated by car travel.

Each of us needs to reach out to neighbors, schools and businesses to garner support. Many residents of nearby Montgomery County use the CH West train, as I once did when I lived in Erdenheim.

Please contact Governor Shapiro to make saving Chestnut Hill West a priority. More of the budget could be allocated to public transportation without raising taxes.

Go to SaveTheTrain.org to sign the petition and donate.
