Penn Charter performed well in both the footraces and the field events on April 15 in an Inter-Ac League girls’ tri-meet held at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. The team scoring for the event, which also included the Owls of Agnes Irwin School, was done in a dual-meet format.
The PC Quakers outscored the hosting SCH Blue Devils, 87-26, and also topped Irwin, 86-27, while the Owls came out ahead of SCH by a narrow margin, 43-30.

In some ways, the Penn Charter squad approached the tri-meet as a training exercise, as certain standout athletes did not even enter their best events.
Freshman Mackenzie Skelly recorded the best indoor mile time in Pennsylvania back in February, but did not run the 1600 on April 15. Gwen Hamilton, a senior headed for Penn State, was the Pennsylvania indoor champion in the 800, but was not entered in that event in the meet at SCH.
Quakers senior Michaela Poland (University of Pennsylvania) won the 200 meter dash (25.69 seconds) and the high jump (4’10”), and anchored the Quakers’ victorious 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams. Marlee Howard, a senior for the Blue Devils, won the 100 meter dash (12.91) and was runner-up in the 200.
PC junior Logan Lloyd was second in the 100, and third-place finishes were turned in by SCH sophomore Mimi Gallagher in the 100 and by Agnes Irwin senior Lauriel Morrison in the 200.
High jump runner-up Keagan Seth, a Charter sophomore, cleared the same 4’10” bar as Poland, but needed more attempts to do it. Third place went to Owls senior Maya Greene.
SCH sophomore Nadia Bevan won both the long jump (17’4”) and the 400 meter dash (57.61). Penn Charter had Seth place second and sophomore Taliyah Davis finish third in the long jump. PC’s Hamilton was a close second to Bevan in the 400, with SCH sophomore Melia Echewa coming in third.
Davis gave the Quakers a victory in the triple jump, traveling 34’ 0.25”. PC swept the top three spots here; sophomore Margaret Foley was second, and senior Zsuzsi Pollock was third.
That was actually Pollock’s lowest finish. She won both the shot put (34’ 1.25”) and the 100 meter hurdles (18.73 seconds). SCH captured second and third place in the shot, thanks to sophomore Madison Nathaniel and junior Nadia Russell.
There were only two entries in the 100 hurdles, where second place went to Quakers junior Tisa Edwards. Edwards was also runner-up in the 300 hurdles, and here a one-two-three PC sweep was led by junior Naira Presley (50.24), with sophomore Betsy Taylor finishing third.
In the longer footraces, Charter senior Abby Downin won the 800 meters (2:18.86) and Agnes Irwin senior Emma Watson triumphed in the 1600 (5:31.11). In the 800, Quakers junior Marlie Klein was the runner-up and the Blue Devils’ Gallagher was third. In the 1600, second and third place went to PC freshman Beatrice O’Connell and Irwin junior Serena Dong.
There was no 3200-meter race, and meet host Springside Chestnut Hill did not enter either of the relay events. Penn Charter won both the 4 x 100 (53.02) and the 4 x 400 (4:11.65).
