Shake your body at a Zydeco dance party

The boogie and bop of Mardi Gras will touch down on Germantown Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 17, when The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill hosts a Louisiana dance party in the congregation’s Widener Hall.

Dikki Du Carrier and The Zydeco Krewe, of New Orleans, will provide the music for the event which starts at 7:45 p.m. with beginning dance lessons. Live music starts at 8:30 p.m. New dancers are welcome and no partners are necessary.

The Carrier family is synonymous with New Orleans and Zydeco, and Dikki represents the family’s third generation in Zydeco, working to preserve a music genre created in rural Southwest Louisiana by African Americans of Creole heritage. The event is sponsored by Allons Danser.

The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill is at 8855 Germantown Avenue. Tickets are $20 at the door; $10 for students with valid identification.
