Sound bath meditation at Chestnut Hill’s skyspace

In an era where mindfulness feels increasingly elusive, a former fashion designer is bringing an ancient meditative practice to one of Philadelphia's most striking architectural spaces.

Larissa Noble, founder of Poser Creative, will host crystal sound bath meditation sessions at the James Turrell Skyspace in Chestnut Hill this January, offering participants a unique convergence of sound, light, and contemplative space.

"Most people understand the benefits of meditation, but finding a consistent practice can feel impossible," says Noble, who discovered sound bath meditation after years of struggling with traditional seated meditation techniques.

The upcoming sessions will take place in the Turrell Skyspace, an architectural installation known for its carefully engineered aperture in the ceiling and sophisticated lighting design. Participants will experience the resonant tones of crystal alchemy bowls while surrounded by the space's color-changing light displays and, weather permitting, views of the winter sky.

Noble's path to sound therapy follows a 25-year career in fashion design, where she created denim collections for global brands in New York and Los Angeles. After becoming a certified sound practitioner, she launched Poser Creative in 2022, drawing inspiration from her background in fashion, fitness, and architectural design.

"Sound bath meditation offered me something different — an effortless way to achieve a meditative state," Noble explains. The practice typically involves participants lying or sitting comfortably while listening to harmonious sounds produced by crystal bowls played live.

Having returned to Pennsylvania in 2023, Noble has established a sound bath atelier in Spring House, where she offers both group and private sessions. The Skyspace event represents an expansion of her practice into one of Philadelphia's most distinctive venues.

Participants are advised to dress warmly, as the space's signature roof opening means temperatures can fluctuate. The session includes a selenite crystal for each participant, and mats, blankets, and benches will be provided.
