With deep sadness, I read both Councilperson Bass and Anthony Fullard’s opinion articles in last week’s issue of the Local (Nov. 6). Everyone mourns the tragic murder of Kada Scott and knows the impact her death brings to her family and those who knew her well. With deep sadness, I read both Councilperson Bass and Anthony Fullard’s opinion articles in last week’s issue of the Local (Nov. 6). Everyone mourns the tragic murder of Kada Scott and knows the impact her death brings to her family and those who knew her well. It was the councilwoman’s immediate response, with a call to demolish the long-abandoned Ada H.H. Lewis School to answer the terrible situation that shocked the Germantown/Mt. Airy community.

For too long city-owned properties have been left to languish, become stains on our communities and now horrible crime scenes.

We all want long marginalized minority developers to prosper and be awarded projects of merit to move forward but 10 to 20 years waiting while these properties sit vacant is not the answer.

While I am not speaking for, or promoting, experienced developers like Ken Weinstein, I am fighting for those community supported projects like the ones at Ada Lewis and the former YWCA of Germantown. Ms. Bass’ clear choice to exclude certain developers who she, for some reason, feels justified in excluding, is wrong,

David Thomas, Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority chairman and board president, has told us too many times that there is no reason to even consider opening up contracts to be bid on if they know Ms. Bass will not accept them from certain developers. This is wrong. She is not looking out for our communities, she is standing in the way.
