Stephen M. Santa Maria passed away on December 16, 2023 at Silver Stream Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Stephen was born in Chestnut Hill on November 30, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Ernesto Santa Maria. He is survived by his sisters Joanne Dhody of Erdenheim, PA and Patty Roberts of Iowa City, Iowa as well as his nieces, Anna Dhody of Oreland PA, Allia Dhody of Wyndmoor, PA and nephew John Roberts of Hinsdale, Illinois.
Steve attended Our Mother of Consolation School and later lived at the St. Coletta School in Hanover, Massachusetts and the Elwyn Training School in Elwyn, Pennsylvania. He worked on the grounds crew for 17 years at Norwood Academy and then served as custodian at Our Mother of Consolation Church. Steve enjoyed his work and being active. He made friends wherever he went and was especially fond of his friends at Engine 37 and the Bocce Club. He loved music and, given the chance, played the maracas to Herb Alpert tunes at Pastorius Park concerts. He found joy and accomplishment in paint-by-numbers and ceramics. Never did Steve miss an opportunity for a Philly cheesesteak.
After he retired, he lived at the Lamb Foundation in North Wales for 20 years. He will be missed by those who knew him. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to The Lamb Foundation, 114 North Main Street, North Wales, PA 19454.
