The impact of climate change on the Wissahickon

Posted

Friends of the Wissahickon will host ecologist Marc Peipoch on Tuesday, Nov. 7, for a talk on how climate change is impacting local watersheds like the Wissahickon.

The free event is part of the conservation group's Fall Valley Talks lecture series. Peipoch, a research scientist at Stroud Water Research Center, will discuss the effects of global warming on rivers and streams.

While some change is natural, waterways like the Wissahickon are especially vulnerable to accelerating climate impacts. Warming water temperatures may be more than aquatic ecosystems can withstand.

Peipoch will outline expected climate change effects in the near future and actions needed to help rivers adapt. Attendees will learn how they can help the Wissahickon watershed become more resilient.

The talk will be held at the Valley Green Inn from 6 to 7 p.m. and also available virtually via Zoom. Online registration is required for both options.

Friends of the Wissahickon hosts free Valley Talks each spring and fall covering history, habitat, and issues related to the iconic Philadelphia park. Experts and researchers are brought in to engage the community on Wissahickon-related topics.
