As a fellow educator for over 50 years, let me please express my condolences for the loss of a teacher who it is clear from your article lived a most impactful life (“A remarkable teacher who almost made it to age 100,” Aug. 13). I regret that Bennett (Fairorth) didn’t make it to Sept. 1 of this year when he would have turned 100 and added yet another achievement to his already full plate of accolades. It is not surprising that so many people have sent their regards to you about Bennett in that he mentored so many students and colleagues over the years in a world where there is such a dearth of positivity and high intellect.

I loved that Bennett ... celebrated the achievements of the Chestnut Hill Local as though he were a member of the staff himself. It speaks for itself that he was blessed with the skills of superlative teaching. You have given your subscribers a true gift by sharing the specifics of Bennett’s life with all of us, and for that I sincerely say thank you. I live in Rydal Park and learned of Bennett’s passing earlier this summer. Your article has shed new light on even more dimensions of this very special person, and for that, and many other reasons about your wonderful writing talent, I am so very grateful.
