The repertoire to be played and sung highlights the best of the Baroque era, approximately 1600 to 1750.
The season opens Sunday, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. with the Camerata Ama Deus’ “Bach Fest.” Six scores composed by Johann Sebastian Bach will be featured, with Radu included among the soloists. Bach is considered by most classical musicians to have been the greatest classical composer of them all. The concert is set for St. Katharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Wayne.
The program includes the Sinfonia from Cantata No. 156, the Violin Concerto in A minor, the Orchestral Suite No. 2 in G minor, the Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, and the Keyboard Concerto in A major.
The Camerata Ama Deus continues the season with a salute to one of the other two titans of the Baroque, Antonio Vivaldi. The third member of that mighty trio is, of course, George Frideric Handel, whose “Messiah” remains the most acclaimed oratorio ever composed.
“Vivaldissimo” boasts the Concerto for Strings and Continuo in D minor, the Oboe Concerto in G minor, the Trumpet Concerto in A-flat major, all four concerti of the “Four Seasons” (“Spring,” “Summer,” “Autumn” and “Winter”) and the Concerto for Oboe and Trumpet in C major.
The program will be performed twice: Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m., in the Episcopal Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Chestnut Hill; and Sunday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m., in St. Katharine of Siena.
Radu and the Vox Renaissance Consort return to St. Martin, for “Renaissance Noel” Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The performance in Renaissance costumes, sung by soloists, and accompanied by period instruments, will reprise Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m., in the Great Hall of Thomas Library at Bryn Mawr College.
Radu and the Ama Deus Ensemble will celebrate their New Year with a concert Friday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kimmel Center’s Perelman Theater. British pianist Peter Donohue will be the featured soloist in Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto in G major and Fifth Piano Concerto in E-flat major, the “Emperor.”
Donohue will perform a solo recital Sunday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. in the Church of the Good Samaritan in Wayne. His program includes three of Beethoven’s most popular sonatas: the “Pathetique,” the “Moonlight,” and the “Appassionata.”
Radu and the Vox Renaissance Consort will return to St. Martin for “Renaissance Candlemas” Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be repeated the next day, Sunday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in St. Katharine of Siena.
Camerata Ama Deus will perform “Brilliant Baroque,” a “potpourri” of Baroque composers’ scores, at St. Martin, Saturday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m., and again, Sunday, March 15, at 7 p.m., at St. Katharine.
The Ama Deus Ensemble of vocalists, chorus and orchestra will offer “Mozart & Rossini” Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m., in St. Katharine. Camerata Ama Deus will proffer “ABC: Albinoni, Bach & Corelli” Sunday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in St. Katharine.
The season will come to a close Sunday, June 7, at 7 p.m., in St. Katharine with renditions of Bach’s “Magnificat,” the “Brandenburg” Concerto No. 2 in F major, and several other concerti.
