We must protect Greylock

Posted

In response to the comprehensive and straightforward argument and plan laid out in the Chestnut Hill Local on Feb. 1, 2024, I wholeheartedly support the protection of Greylock Mansion by the easements that defend it, to prevent overdevelopment and the flagrant violation of the intent of those who initiated the easements.

My mother carefully initiated an easement on her beautiful rural property in Bucks County some years ago that today defends it against undue development, ‘uglification’, or neglect. It was not undertaken on a whim, and she had to post a bond (I believe) that her Conservancy could use to defend against interlopers.

These tools can be vital to keeping our neighborhoods beautiful for all when it is too easy to bend to greed and ugliness. It is our responsibility to uphold the intent of the originators of such easements.

Thanks for listening.
