Wills Eye Hospital will host its 17th annual Give Kids Sight Day on Saturday, Oct. 3. This event provides access to vision care, including eye exams and eye glass prescriptions, to uninsured and underinsured children in the Greater Philadelphia area.

“Give Kids Sight Day is one of my favorite days of the year. Since 2009, we have provided free, comprehensive vision care to more than 14,000 children in and around Philadelphia,” Julia A. Haller, chief executive officer of Wills Eye Hospital, said in a news release.

At the event, patients will be screened by volunteers from Wills Eye Hospital and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Those who do not pass the onsite screening will receive a same-day vision exam and eyeglasses prescription.

Once examined, kids will pick out two free glasses frames courtesy of the OneSight Essilor Luxottica Foundation, which will then be made to their specific prescription and available for pickup at a separate event later this fall. Wills Eye Hospital provides these services at no cost.

Interpreters will be available. Advance appointments are recommended. There may be limited walk-in slots.
