A youthful sampling of the arts

Woodmere Art Museum’s summer classes for youth offer children and teens the chance to escape the heat and tap into their creativity with a series of workshops and a theater camp. This weekend, preschoolers ages 3 to 5 can learn how to create a bird costume using paint, feathers and fabric. The workshop is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 13, and is $30 ($20 for members).

Later in the summer, youngsters can create a life-size self-portrait by tracing their bodies on paper; learn about “myths and monsters'' by making their own masks, shields and vessels; and create a “rainforest,” in an art studio and outside on the museum grounds. At the Theater Horizons summer camp, Aug. 19-23, for ages youngsters 7 to 12, young actors will spend a week creating an original play. For information and to register, woodmereartmuseum.org. Woodmere is located at 9201 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill.
