Finally! The Holiday House Tour returns to Chestnut Hill

One of Chestnut Hill’s most popular traditions is back again this year, after a three-year hiatus due to all the closures brought about by Covid.

After much planning and preparation by Chestnut Hill Community Association board members and community volunteers, the 2023 Holiday House tour is scheduled for Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature six houses as well as delicious holiday treats, spirits, and live musical performances throughout the day.

“We are thrilled to bring this special event back to the community,” said Lynn Schroeder, who co-chaired the committee. “The holiday house tour is truly a  cherished seasonal tradition that celebrates both the beauty of Chestnut Hill and the historical significance of our lovely neighborhood.”

Everyone pitches in, said Shroeder, which adds to the community spirit.

“This tour is truly a neighborhood effort, with more than 100 people volunteering to assist that day, and many local businesses taking part by displaying their merchandise,” said Lucie Daigle, another committee co-chair.

Each home will be dressed up in its holiday finest and volunteer docents will be on hand to explain the history, and the stories, behind each one. And no one need worry about parking, or long walks from house to house.

Trolleys will provide transport along the route, and they will also be making stops at the Woodmere Art Museum and various locations along Germantown Avenue.

“Our guests will be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy themselves as they are taken from home to home,” said Schroeder.

Tradition has it that the exact address of the houses available for tour this year won’t be divulged until the day of the event itself – adding a dose of suspense for those who sign up to go.

And, apparently, that works. The CHCA has already sold 500 tickets, and they are still in high demand.

“It's been great to hear how excited people are by the news the tour is back,” said Anne McNiff, executive director of the CHCA. “I think this tour will be the best one yet.”

The Chestnut Hill Community Association’s Holiday House Tour Committee has been meeting since March to plan this year’s comeback event.
