Manayunk celebrates its small-town, small-biz character

More than 50 independent boutiques, restaurants and shops in the charming riverside neighborhood of Manayunk will celebrate Small Business Saturday with a variety of festivities.

On Saturday, Nov. 25, visitors can take advantage of one-day-only deals at many of Manayunk's popular eateries, salons, galleries and retail stores. Several businesses will offer holiday snacks, libations, gift wrapping, and entertainment throughout the day. It's a chance to find unique gifts and reinvest dollars back into the local community.

“Nothing feels better than a good deal – especially when you can shop small and shop local at over 50 small businesses,” said Caitlin Marsilii of the Manayunk Development Corporation. “Manayunk wouldn’t be Manayunk without its businesses, and Small Business Saturday is dedicated to celebrating and supporting them in our community.”

The kickoff of the holiday shopping season also coincides with the 4th Annual Manayunk Gets Lit Competition, taking place throughout December. Main Street is decked out with tens of thousands of lights as Manayunk businesses decorate their storefronts, windows, roofs, and more. Guests are encouraged to help vote their favorite storefronts in for Best Overall, Most Lit, and Most Creative, and better yet, all voters are entered to win a $200 Manayunk Shopping Spree.

Later this week, Manayunk will be shifting into full holiday mode with its Holiday Light Nights and Jolly Trolley, which starts on November 30. Visitors can take free trolley rides to see dazzling light displays and storefronts. Special shopping nights, Santa visits, and festive drinks and eats will continue into December.
