In front of an enthusiastic Senior Day home crowd, the Mount St. Joseph Academy field hockey team finished out its 2026 league schedule last Thursday with a 12-0 victory over visiting Sacred Heart Academy. Cornell-bound senior Tess Hankins scored five times as the Magic raised their overall season record to 12-4.

Within the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies (AACA), the Mount finished with a 6-3 mark, tying for second place with Gwynedd Mercy Academy. Mount St. Joe and Gwynedd split in their two games this fall, and both teams lost to 2026 champion Villa Maria Academy. Sacred Heart, with the smallest enrollment (by far) of the AACA members, only plays a single game against league opponents, instead of a home/away series.

For the visitors from Bryn Mawr, last Thursday was not a good time to be playing the Mount, since the Magic had just lost a league game to Villa Maria two days earlier.

The Mounties immediately took the ball down into the Sacred Heart circle, earning a penalty corner just over a minute into the match. The eventual game-winning goal went in with 11:49 still remaining in the first quarter, as Hankins whacked in a backhander from the left side. The senior scored again about 90 seconds later, closing in on a loose ball in front of the Lions’ cage for her shot.

The score remained static for another five minutes or so, as Hankins had a shot turned aside by the Lions’ goalie. The Magic’s offense began to fire up again with 4:49 remaining in the opening period. They would score three times in a span of 48 seconds thanks to seniors Lucia Mascaro, Julia McGlynn and Cecilia Esbensen.

The first quarter concluded with a 5-0 lead for Mount St. Joseph, and six-and-a-half minutes into the second period there was a highlight at the other end of the field. That’s when the visitors got off a viable shot and MSJ senior goalie Kathryn Pedicino was forced to make her first save of the game.

The scoreboard came to rest for halftime at 6-0 after sophomore Olivia Harper put in a goal with 4:20 remaining in the second quarter.

After Hankins deposited her third goal of the day less than two minutes into the second half, the Lions were able to apply some pressure on offense. Their best scoring opportunity was foiled with a kick save by Pedicino, and soon the Mounties redirected the play to the other end of the pitch.

Senior Caitlin Paul had a shot stopped with six-and-a-half minutes left in round three, but later the Magic picked up goals by junior Sara Massella (normally a deep defender) and Hankins.

Hankins would cap off her five-goal afternoon just 40 seconds into the fourth quarter, making it 10-0. With 12:48 remaining, Pedicino turned over the goal to junior keeper Chloe Conwell. They would finish up with five saves and one save, respectively.

Mount St. Joseph reached its winning total of 12-0 thanks to markers by Mascaro and Paul.
