The Inter-Ac schools gathered for their fifth league golf outing last Tuesday in Blue Bell, performing on GA's home course at Bluestone Country Club.
Penn Charter freshman Jack Sheward turned in a two-over-par score of 38 to lead Penn Charter to a team score of 201 (the sum of the top five individual rounds), best of the teams east of the Schuylkill River.
Germantown Academy's senior co-captains Ajeet Bagga and Will Irons each shot a 40 and the Patriots produced a team score of 207. This put them one stroke ahead of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, with a 208. The low round for SCH, a score of 38, came from junior Ethan Eckert.
As in the past, the top overall scores came from the Main Line schools.
The frontrunner this fall, Haverford School, compiled a team tally of 192, with Malvern Prep close behind with a 194 and Episcopal Academy third with a 199.
The best individual performance on Tuesday was a two-under 34 fashioned by Episcopal senior Hunter Stetson, who has been ranked 54th nationally in the Class of 2024 and is headed to North Carolina State. The only senior on area teams who has already committed for golf is GA's Bagga, who has picked New York University.
Helping Penn Charter slide into fourth place last Tuesday were two rounds of 40 from senior Max Gross and junior Dean Kaiser. Another junior, Casey Felter, came around in 41 strokes, and completing the Quakers' team score was a 42 from freshman Jasper Dittus.
Aside from the 40's scored by Bagga and Irons, the team tally for the GA Patriots incorporated rounds of 42 from junior Robert Leininger and sophomore Lucas Albert, and a 43 from junior Blair Mitchell.
Germantown's roster features two female players, juniors Kiran Bagga (Ajeet's sister) and Sarah Cohen. Springside Chestnut Hill and Episcopal both field girls' teams in the spring season, as do all-girls schools Agnes Irwin, Baldwin School, and the Academy of Notre Dame.
The SCH boys followed up Eckert's score of 38 last Tuesday with a 40 from senior team captain Owen Tilsner. There are a lot of 11th-graders on the Blue Devils' roster, and the team's other three official scores at the Inter-Ac outing came from Eckert's classmates Alex Topping (41), Josh Miller (44), and Connor Lauerman (45).
Although the three Main Line schools still occupy the top spots in the Inter-Ac standings (as they have in many seasons past), longtime Malvern coach Gary Duda noted that the gap has been closing between them and the Quakers, Patriots and Blue Devils.
