Philly Bookstore Crawl: A literary tour through the Northwest 

Book lovers, mark your calendars for Saturday, Aug. 24, when  the Philly Bookstore Crawl returns, offering a day of literary exploration throughout the region including bookstores in Northwest Philadelphia and the nearby suburbs. This year’s crawl promises an array of exciting events, giveaways, and special offers at some of the region’s beloved bookstores.

Chestnut Hill

Literary hangouts Hilltop Books, Multiverse and booked have partnered with neighborhood restaurants to offer a special Booklovers Breakfast Special available at Baker Street and Matine’s Cafe, starting at 9 a.m.  After a tasty bite (or before), visitors can stop by the bookstores for all kinds of specials in celebration of the crawl.

     Booked. (8511 Germantown Avenue) will feature outdoor sales and in-store specials throughout the day. Don’t miss their afternoon treat: a special booked. cocktail/mocktail.

     Hilltop Books (84 Bethlehem Pike Rear) will set up outdoor tables offering books for $2 and $4. The store will host giveaways and provide opportunities to support the local public library. Plus, spending $20 at Hilltop earns you a 20% discount at Matine’s Cafe across the street.

      Multiverse (8026 Germantown Avenue) will offer 20-30% discounts on science fiction, fantasy, and horror novels. Shoppers who spend $25 or more between 9 and 11 a.m. will be entered into a drawing for free tickets to a special screening of  “The Labyrinth” with a live orchestral score at the Keswick Theater.

Mt. Airy

     Big Blue Marble (551 Carpenter Lane) Families and young readers will find a haven that will offer free books and goodies donated by HarperCollins Publishers and Candlewick Press. Big Blue Marblewill be open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Supplies are limited, so early arrival is recommended.

Germantown

UMOJA House  (6338 Germantown Ave.) will offer its wide range of fiction, nonfiction and cultural literature for all ages, along with and array of coffee, gifts, stationery and candles.

Uncle Bobbie’s (5445 Germantown Ave.) The bookstore and coffee shop will supply its usual “Cool People. Dope Books. Great Coffee.” and will surely promote its upcoming schedule of events with celebrity authors including rapper/actress Eve and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. 

The Burbs

Capricorn Books (605 West Ave., Jenkintown) Rom-Com author Laura Piper Lee will be signing books between noon and 3 p.m., and the store will offer giveaways of author Jennifer Weiner’s latest romance novel “The Breakaway.”

Open Book Bookstore (7900 High School Road, Elkins Park) will offer  its carefully curated collection of great books including literary and classic fiction,  nonfiction, young adult and children’s books, and the works of local authors.
