Stagecrafters opens season with acclaimed drama ‘Doubt’

The Stagecrafters community theater will open its 2023-2024 season with John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play, "Doubt: A Parable." The production will run from Sept. 15 through Oct. 1 at the company's theater at 8130 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill.

Set in a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, "Doubt" centers on a clash between the traditionalist principal Sister Aloysius and the school's charismatic, progressive priest Father Flynn. Sister Aloysius suspects Father Flynn of inappropriate behavior with a young male student, and her campaign to expose the truth raises questions of truth and doubt.

Shanley is the author of 23 plays including "Outside Mullingar," produced by The Stagecrafters in 2018. He also penned the Academy Award winning screenplay for "Moonstruck."

Performances of "Doubt" will take place Sept. 15-17, Sept. 21-23, and Sept. 28-Oct. 1. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.

Tickets and reservations are available online at www.thestagecrafters.org and by calling 215-247-8881.
