Last chance to see ‘Souls Shot’

This weekend is the last chance to view a powerful exhibition memorializing gun violence victims in the barn at historic Cliveden in Germantown.

The Souls Shot Portrait Project, closing Sunday, Oct. 8, features portraits of gun violence victims created by local artists in collaboration with victims' families and friends. Artists met with victims' loved ones to learn about their lives before creating the diverse works.

The portraits are meant to emphasize the individuality and uniqueness of each life lost and to be a call to action to fight the scourge of gun violence, organizers say.

Those memorialized in the project’s 2023-24 season include Nicholas Elizalde, 14, who was killed in a shooting outside Roxborough High School after a football scrimmage, and Shaliyah Davis, 25, who was four months pregnant when she was shot and killed in North Philadelphia.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, and noon to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. For appointments outside regular hours, contact Cliveden's office at 215-848-1777. Admission is free. The exhibition at 98 E. Cliveden St. is open Saturday and Sunday from 12-4 p.m.
